Muizenberg

The Capetonian suburb is situated on False Bay and is the ideal base for water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Activities in Muizenberg

Located about a 30-min drive from the city centre of Cape Town on the other side of the Cape Peninsula, Muizenberg is well known as a haven for surfers. As its long white beaches sit right at the largest bay of the country, the water here is calmer than along the beaches of Table Bay, which makes it a great spot for beginners and more advanced surfers alike. But also other water sports such as kayaking, diving and sailing are offered.

To make sure swimmers and surfers are safe, Shark Spotters are keeping a close eye at the water to warn people of any sharks. There hasn’t been an incident since 2004. But should you feel like the ocean is not for you, there is a public pool, waterslides and a putt-putt course along the Muizenberg promenade.

Want to keep your feet dry? Then Muizenberg, which boarders the Table Mountain National Park, offers you 23 nature walks and hikes with stunning views of the town and the gigantic bay.

If history is more up your alley, you are also at the right spot. Het Posthuys, formally a toll house, is one of the oldest building still standing. And in Rhodes’ Cottage, you will find a small but informative museum about the life of Cecil John Rhodes, once the richest man in Africa.

Activities near Muizenberg

Muizenberg is only 40 km northeast of the Cape of Good Hope. On your way there, you will pass through picturesque fishing villages such as Kalk Bay, St. James and Simon’s Town. Don’t forget to stop at the local African penguin colony there. Just like Muizenberg, they offers a variety of interesting shops, restaurants and cafés. Each of the villages is worth a visit on your way to Africa’s most south-westerly point.

Restaurants in Muizenberg
