Green Point

Green Point

Hip, liberal and young: Green Point is known for its former soccer World Cup soccer stadium, its green areas, stylish restaurants & clubs and the urban lifestyle. Green Point is also the starting point for the popular seaside promenade which is loved by locals and tourists and leads towards Sea Point.

This suburb of Cape Town is located at the Atlantic Ocean shore and the slopes of Signal Hill. Mouille Point is also a part of it. Like Sea Point, Green Point is a part of the Atlantic Seaboard. In the East, Green Point borders on the De Waterkant quarter and the city centre. In the West and South, it is adjacent to Sea Point. This suburb extends over an area of 2 x 3 kilometres. A large part of this suburb is covered by the Green Point Common – a recreation area with a golf course, the soccer stadium and other sports facilities.

Character of this Cape Town suburb

Modern apartment complexes stretch along the beach in Mouille Point. Between the Green Point Common and Signal Hill there are single and multistorey houses. Here, tourists can still discover beautiful Victorian-style houses. Many of them are functioning as guest houses, nowadays. Three main streets run through Green Point: Beach Road, Main Road and High Level Road. The liveliest one is Main Road with its many restaurants and Bars.

From Green Point, you can easily walk to the Cape Town city centre. It only takes 20 minutes. If you walk along the main street, you can also spot a lot of interesting things on your way.

Sights in Green Point

Green Point and the adjacent suburb Sea Point offer a 5 km long seaside promenade, which leads from the World Cup soccer stadium via Sea Point to Bantry Bay. You can visit the old lighthouse in Mouille Point. It is 20 m high and was put into service in 1824 already. This makes it one of the oldest lighthouses in South Africa. Near the Green Point lighthouse, a restaurant with an outdoor area invites visitors to spend some time.

The main attraction is the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, which can be reached by foot. Visitors are flocking to the various shops, restaurants and entertainment areas.

You can enjoy a great view of Green Point from Signal Hill. In the evening, many tourists and Capetonians are meeting on top of Signal Hill for a picnic or a glass of wine while they enjoy the magnificent sunset.

Green Point Park
