Camps Bay

Camps Bay

Camps Bay – Known for its beautiful white beaches, hip bars and world-class restaurants

Camps Bay is the place to be in Cape Town if you enjoy the high life and scenic beauty.

Beaches in Camps Bay

A short drive from the city centre, Camps Bay is located on the opposite side of Table Mountain and features one of  Cape Town’s ten Blue Flag beaches. The water may be chilly, but the ocean is relatively calm here making it one of the few beaches in Cape Town safe to swim (with lifeguards on duty). The costal stretch actually offers numerous smaller beaches, some secluded and more private than others. At Oudekraal, you can even braai after a swim in the refreshing sea.

Where to eat and party in Camps Bay

Facing Camps Bay beach is the promenade busting with restaurants offering seafood and international cuisine, classy cafés, and hip cocktail bar perfect for sundowners while you watch the sun sink into the ocean. Afterwards, some of these bars turn into party places, where you can let your hair down until the small hours.

There are two ways to get to Camps Bay. You can take the long way along the coast starting at the V&A Waterfront and driving through affluent suburbs with luxurious homes to look at or you can take the shortcut over Table Mountain and enjoy a beautiful bird-eyes view of Camps Bay and the beach as you come down the mountain road. However, taking the longer route also offers you fantastic views of the Twelve Apostles, the backside of Table Mountain. Don’t forget to stop at Maiden’s Cove for some must-have pictures.

Activities in and near Camps Bay

The coastal road continues all the way to Hout Bay, a small fishing village known for its fun harbour market with live music. The scenic Victoria Drive winds its way along the water and the foot of the Table Mountain range and is definitely worth a trip. You’ll find another Blue Flag beach, Llundadno beach, just before entering Hout Bay.

Being nestled at the foot of Table Mountain several paths lead up the mountain from Camps Bay for those who enjoy a good hike. We can highly recommend the slightly strenuous Kasteelspoort trail up to the water reservoirs on top. In the evening, fun and entertainment awaits you at the local Theatre on the Bay staging well-known plays, musicals and comedy gigs.

Camps Bay is the ideal suburb for anyone who enjoys beaches, scenic beauty and likes to party.
